Today’s technological advances boost insulation efficiency for new custom replacement windows. Most windows are still energy drains. Basically, a low e coating does a good job of reflecting heat back to its source, weather its reflected heat, solar heat or radiant heat. In the south our low e glass is designed to reflect the heat away from the window. In areas where there is an abundant of glare or sun in addition to the low e glass, custom replacement windows may add bronze or gray tint. The tint reduces some visible light and absorbs the heat. To increase the thermal effectiveness of low e windows the air space between the dual glasses is filled with an inert gas, usually argon on custom replacement windows. Argon gas is five and a half times thicker then air and it decreases heat loss through conduction.
